What We Do
  • Community
  • Dignity
  • Hope

starts with a home.

Berthoud Habitat for Humanity partners with families and individuals who qualify for our program to make affordable homeownership a reality. We don't just build houses. We serve as the builder, lender, and developer, walking alongside each family every step of the way. Guided by our mission to put God's love into action, we bring volunteers, donors, and community members together to build homes, communities, and hope right here in Berthoud.

This amazing opportunity has given me a renewed sense of continuing to pay off debt, to practice mindful spending, and to feel like I will finally have a home I can call my own.

Frequent Questions

Not sure where to start?

Have you ever had a question and didn’t know where to find the answer? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

  • Is a Habitat home a free house?

No, Habitat homeowners purchase their home through an affordable, no-profit mortgage. They also contribute sweat equity hours helping to build their own home and others.

  • What is sweat equity?

Sweat equity is the hours future homeowners invest volunteering with Berthoud Habitat. It's one of the things that makes the Habitat model unique — families earn their home through hard work and community involvement.

  • If I donate, how is my money used?

100% of your donation stays local and goes directly into our mission. You can always view our financials online to know where your donations are coming to.
